The latest proposal for transit expansion in Toronto did not survive a meeting of City Council.

But it does appear to have sparked a detailed look at where transit is going.

The “One City” transit plan proposed by TTC Chair Karen Stintz and Vice-Chair Glen de Baeremaeker was rejected by council. But Councillors did direct city staff to look at all of the transit plans that have been proposed over the past thirty years and report back to council in the fall.

The staff investigation will include public consultations and discussions with the regional transit agency, Metrolinx.

Council did vote to make a light rapid transit line along the waterfront from Union Station to Parliament a priority. It will provide transit to the growing docklands area.
