An online publisher is capitalizing on the popularity of the erotic novel Fifty Shades of Grey by releasing sexually heightened versions of 19th Century classics.
Clandestine Publishing will introduce new versions of such titles as Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre and Jane Austen’s Pride And Prejudice beginning July 30th.
The publisher says “The old fashioned pleasantries and timidity have all been stripped away, quite literally.” The new versions will feature love scenes of “scorching passion” that didn’t exist in the original.
The publisher says “We’re not rewriting the classics, but we want to enhance the novels by adding ‘missing’ scenes’ for readers to enjoy.”
But critics say Clandestine is indulging in a blatant cash grab by turning literary classics into so-called “mommy porn”.
