The “for sale” signs outside Toronto’s three city-owned theatres may not be up for long.
The City is trying to find owners or operators for the Sony Centre, the St. Lawrence Centre, and the Toronto Centre for the Arts. Nine organizations have submitted written proposals to the city. Most are locally-based, including CanStage, the current tenant at the St. Lawrence Centre’s Bluma Appel Theatre; the St Lawrence Centre; North York Performing Arts Centre Corp., which manages the Toronto Centre for the Arts; and the Corporation of Massey Hall and Roy Thompson Hall.
Several international companies have also expressed an interest.
Interviews and presentations are currently scheduled for August 3rd.
