Forty-one years ago Ontario Place was brand new – a state of the art family park.  Today, we will find out the province’s plans to revitalize the aging Ontario Place complex.  Former provincial PC leader John Tory will unveil a final report this morning from the advisory panel he heads up, to make the park a must visit destination once again.  Annual attendance at Ontario Place has dropped to about 300,000 compared to the 2.5 million who turned out in 1971.  Finance Minister Dwight Duncan said earlier this year, the government cannot afford to keep Ontario Place open in its current form.  The park will be closed until 2017, and the water park, amusement rides an cinesphere will be torn down.

There have been many suggestions for the 39-hectare park, such as a casino or a condo development, but the province has rejected the casino idea.
