The eyes of the world will focus on London, England, this afternoon.
The 30th Olympiad begins officially with the opening ceremonies, created by Danny Boyle, the Oscar-winning director of Slumdog Millionaire.
Simon Whitfield will carry the Canadian flag at the head of the 277-strong Team Canada. The Canadian Olympic Committee is pushing for Canada to place in the top twelve at the games.
Queen Elizabeth will officially open the games, and there is great speculation, as always, as to who will carry the Olympic flame into the stadium. The Queen’s grandson, Prince William, has been suggested as a possibility, along with soccer star David Beckham.
