A musical based on a Christmas movie is returning to Broadway for the holidays.

Elf: The Musical begins performances on November 9th at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on 45th Street, the same venue where it made its debut two years ago. It will close January 6th.

It’s based on the Will Ferrell movie of the same name.

The show features songs by Tony Award-nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin who wrote The Wedding Singer. The book is by Tony winners Thomas Meehan (The Producers, Hairspray) and Toronto’s Bob Martin (The Drowsy Chaperone. Casey Nicholaw of The Book of Mormon and Spamalot returns to direct and choreograph.

Elf will find competition not just from the Radio City Christmas Spectacular but also from a new musical stage version of another Christmas film: A Christmas Story.
