And, just like that, it’s all over.
London brought the curtain down on a glorious Olympic Games with a pop music extravaganza yesterday, as the multi-petaled Olympic cauldron was extinguished.
The closing ceremonies also featured a hand-off of the Olympic flag to Rio de Janeiro, which will host the next Summer Games in 2016.
The captain of the bronze-medal Canadian women’s soccer team, Christine Sinclair, carried the maple leaf flag at the head of Team Canada.
Our athletes will bring home 18 medals, but that’s wasn’t quite enough to reach the Canadian Olympic Committee’s goal of finishing in the top twelve. Ukraine won a pair on the final day to finish with 20, and knock Canada out of a tie for 12th.
