News out of the U.S. may prompt Canadian zoomers to have a discussion with their doctors.  U.S. health experts say baby boomers need to get tested for hepatitis C if they haven’t been already.

They’re recommending a one-time blood test for baby boomers, who they say are five times more likely to be infected with the liver-destroyer than other adults.  Doctor Andrew Muir says if more people receive testing for Hep C , the disease can be caught before it reaches the point that treatment is too late.

The recommendation for testing comes after seeing the number of Americans dying from hepatitis C-related diseases nearly double from 1999 to 2007.

Today the virus is most often spread through needle-sharing, but tattoos, piercings, shared razor blades, toothbrushes and manicures may be causes as well.
