Toronto Mayor Rob Ford will appear in court next month to argue why he shouldn’t be thrown out of office over an alleged conflict of interest.
Lawyers say Rob Ford will be forced to testify and be cross-examined at a hearing to take place on Sept. 5th.
This comes nearly six months after Toronto resident Paul Magder launched a suit proposing to remove the mayor from City Hall and ban him from council for seven years.
Magder is arguing that Ford spoke to, and voted on, an issue in which he had a personal financial stake more than two years ago.
Ford had submitted an affidavit in his own defence, but a judge has now supported Magder’s motion to have the Mayor testify in person before an open court.
Ford’s office issued a brief statement saying the Mayor is looking forward to his day in court.
