78-year-old Jerry Nelson, the puppeteer behind such characters as Count von Count on “Sesame Street” and Gobo Fraggle on “Fraggle Rock” has died at his home on Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

Nelson had emphysema and was in declining health for several years.

He first began working with American puppeteer Bil Baird, who created the marionette sequence for ”The Sound of Music.”
