Musicians are supposed to receive royalties for their music. But a Nova Scotia folk singer was facing the prospect of paying a lot of money to the agency that makes our money.

Dave Gunning released an album titled No More Pennies. It was meant to be a tribute to the coin after the government  decided to stop producing it. But the Mint told him he was going to have to pay a royalty to use the image of the penny on his album cover, which had already been released.

But there’s a happy ending. The Mint has backed down. Gunning says he’s thankful the mint has waived the fee.

TAG: The mint had told Gunning he could sell the first two thousand copies of his album for free, but, beyond that, he would have to pay a royalty of $1,200 for the next 2,000 copies.
