The most expensive work of art ever sold at auction is going on display in New York.

The Museum of Modern Art will show Edvard Munch’s The Scream from October 24th to April 29th.

The painting sold for nearly 120 million dollars at auction at Sotheby’s in May. It’s one of four versions of The Scream that Munch created, and the only one in private hands. The others are in Norwegian museums.

The image of a man holding his head and screaming under a streaked, blood-red sky has become a modern symbol of human anxiety.
