Toronto residents will have a chance to voice their opinions on the best way to fund transit expansion.

The city’s executive committee received a report from the city manager outlining a number of options for paying for billions of dollars in TTC projects. The committee has ordered public consultations on the report.

The options include road tolls and dedicated taxes. Mayor Rob Ford doesn’t agree with either one. But TTC chair Karen Stintz says she believes Torontonians are willing to pay for transit expansion.

A coalition of business, government, non-profit, and community leaders called the Toronto Civic Action Alliance will announce a plan today to get people talking about transit strategy. CEO Mitzi Hunter says, by starting a dialogue, they hope to make senior levels of government realize that transit is important to Toronto voters.
