More than 40 Toronto residents took advantage of an opportunity to voice their opposition to a casino.
The meeting of the Toronto and East York Community Council became a forum for debate on the casino. Councillor Giorgio Mammoliti called the meeting “illegal” because it was not designed to be city-wide. He accused some anti-casino councillors of engineering the event to solidify opposition.
Not all of the speakers were against the casino. Union leaders talked about the opportunities to create jobs.
It will be months before a decision is made on whether Toronto will become home to a casino.
