As the city of New York gradually gets back to work after the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, so does the city’s theatre district, a vital part of the city’s reputation and commerce.

Several theatres re-opened yesterday for Wednesday matinee performances. But some actors faced challenging commutes to work, since the subway was still closed.

Five members of the cast of the Peter Pan prequel, “Peter and the Starcatcher”, had to make it downtown from Brooklyn. One actor arrived five minutes before the curtain. Playwright Rick Elice and co-director Roger Rees were both prepared to go on if he didn’t make it.

All Broadway theatres expect to be up and running tonight.
