The mega-quarry is dead.
The company behind the huge proposed quarry northwest of Toronto says it’s dropping the project.
Highland Companies has withdrawn its application to develop the quarry, saying it does not have “sufficient” support from the community and the government.
Stopping the mega-quarry has been strongly supported by The New AM 740’s “Goldhawk Fights Back” program.
The project has faced protests from area residents and activists who said the quarry would threaten the region’s water tables and destroy prime farm land in the area, about 30 kilometres northwest of Orangeville.
Highland Companies says it plans to focus on farming operations.
