Greg Sorbara was honoured by the Ontario Liberal party last night at a $750 a plate fundraising dinner at Toronto’s Westin Harbour Castle.  The former party president and finance minister has been a big part of the success of outgoing Premier Dalton McGuinty, who hailed Sorbara for his energy and optimism.  Sorbara said he was overwhelmed by the affection from party members and would-be leaders.  Candidates hoping to replace McGuinty were all in attendance including MPP Glen Murray, who was a guest earlier in the day on the New AM 740’s Goldhawk Fights Back. He talked about the political leaders who inspired him when he was a child.  “I found people like John Diefenbaker, Tommy Douglas and Lester Pearson really inspiring folks.  That was a time when politics and public service was viewed as a more memorable craft than it is today, and I thought, I really want to make a difference in the world.”

Glen Murray is the MPP for Toronto Centre.  He’s also served as Mayor of Winnipeg from 1998 to 2004.  The New AM 740’s Goldhawk Fights Back has invited all of the Ontario Liberal leadership candidates to be on the show ahead of the leadership convention January 25th.
