Toronto’s holiday shopping rules are going to stay just the way they are. Toronto City councillors voted last night in favour of keeping stores closed on all 9 statutory holidays, with the exception of stores in designated tourist areas. Councillor Denzil Minnan-Wong says this is the best solution for store employees who want to spend the statutory holidays with their families. “There was this debate about allowing for shopping and you get so many other days to go shopping. We don’t need to have shopping for that day. The real choice was in favour of individuals and families and I think that was the right choice.”
Toronto’s holiday shopping rules have been under review for the past two years.
