Indian officials will allow Deepa Mehta’s latest film to be shown without any cuts.
Mehta responded to the news from the Indian censor board on her twitter page: “India here we come!”
There were concerns that Midnight’s Children, based on Salman Rusdie’s novel, might be banned or edited because it is critical of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
Mehta’s work has sparked controversy in India before. Her film, Water, enraged some Hindu groups who prevented her from filming in the city of Varanasi.
Midnight’s Children will be shown in India early next year. It was featured at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival.
