A  sigh of relief on Broadway after the union representing hundreds of  theatre cleaners, porters, elevator operators and bathroom attendants  reached a tentative labour agreement with the Broadway League – to avert a strike.

Union members  had authorized a strike last week if an acceptable new contract wasn’t agreed on by the end of the year.

The current contract ends Dec. 30th .

Workers  want pay increases and better health care benefits.

Any strike would have affected workers at 32 of Broadway’s 40 theatres where the “32BJ” union  has a contract.
