An astonishing score for a first-year University of Toronto piano student.
Rashaan Allwood scored a perfect 100 for his hour- long Royal Conservatory piano exam – performing baroque, classical, romantic, impressionist and 20th century music.
18-year old Allwood’s flawless 100 score won him the national gold medal as Canada’s top student for the world-renowned “Associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto”(ARCT) diploma.
And just last week at the annual Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival, Rashaan entered three categories: Chopin, Bach and Beethoven – and won them all.
Allwood’s family immigrated to Canada from Jamaica. He says that he is not deterred by the lack of African-Canadians in his music circle.
Rashaan says quote: “It doesn’t matter what colour your skin is. Music is music. You don’t have to be Russian or German or Italian or Asian to do classical music. It all comes from the soul, and we all have a soul.”
