Rob Ford’s legal troubles may not be over yet.

The lawyer who was almost successful in having Toronto’s mayor removed from office for conflict of interest hasn’t given up the fight.

Last fall, a Toronto judge agreed with Clayton Ruby’s argument that Ford had violated conflict of interest rules when he voted on a council motion asking him to repay money he had solicited from lobbyists for his football foundation.

But the Ontario Divisional Court overturned the ruling, saying council had no authority to call the vote in the first place.

Rudy calls that a technicality, and is planning to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. He says the case has national importance and could impact city councils across the country.

But he concedes his application is a long-shot. The high court only agrees to hear about 70 of the one thousand applications it receives every year.
