This is good news for Zoomers who enjoy reading and are concerned about the environment.
Millions of trees have been saved because the publishing industry is creating a much leaner paper trail.
That’s according to new reports from the Book Industry Environmental Council and the Green Press Initiative.
The reports say paper suppliers now use around 25 per cent recycled fiber for book materials compared with an estimated 5 per cent in 2004.
And publishing Industry greenhouse gas emissions have dropped from around 12 million metric tons to 9 million.
Overall, paper usage has also dropped from 1.6 million tons in 2006 to just over 1 million in 2011 resulting in a saving of approximately 5 million trees.
