Chrystia  Freeland has won the 2013 Lionel Gelber Prize.

Freeland won the  $15,000 award for her book “Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else.”

The Gelber prize  celebrates the world’s best non-fiction book in English on foreign affairs.

The judges say “Plutocrats…” took the award because of its ” immediacy and authority about the future.”

Freeland is managing director and editor of consumer news at Thomson Reuters.

The Alberta native lives in New York City and will be in Toronto to receive her prize and deliver the annual Lionel Gelber  free public lecture April 15th.
