Adverse drug reactions cost the Canadian health-care system 35.7-million dollars a year and seniors make up about 80 per cent of those hospital admissions.
A new study by the Canadian Institute for Health Information found that drug reactions send one in every 200 Canadian seniors to hospital every year compared to about one in a thousand people in the general population.
The study showed blood thinners were the most common cause, followed by chemotherapy drugs and opioids.
