There are accusations Toronto Mayor Rob Ford was incoherent and rambling when he arrived at a military event in Toronto last month.  A report in the Toronto Star says Mayor Ford was asked to leave the gala celebrating the Canadian Armed Forces on February 23rd at the Liberty Grand because organizers were concerned he was impaired.  According to some of those in attendance including a prominent Ottawa Conservative, Mayor Ford arrived late for the cocktail and dinner event and was speaking in a rambling, incoherent manner that alarmed some of the guests.  The report says it’s an open secret at Toronto City Hall that the mayor has battled alcohol abuse.  Those closest to him are said to be concerned for his health and the impact it has on his job as mayor of Canada’s largest city.  The Star says current and former staff tell of repeated attempts to persuade the mayor to get help for more than two years and as recently as November.  The apparent request to leave the Toronto Garrison Ball came two weeks before former mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson created a media storm when she accused Ford of groping her while acting “out of it” at a Jewish political group’s event.
