A large-scale sculpture by famed Chinese artist and dissident Ai Weiwei is going on display at Nathan Phillips Square next month.

Toronto City Council has given approval for “Circle of Animals/ Zodiac Heads” to be installed in the reflecting pool in Nathan Phillips Square.

It will be installed as the Art Gallery of Ontario prepares to host a display of Ai’s work in August.

The artist will not be in attendance for either display. Ai is not allowed to leave China because the  government is keeping him under close surveillance as a result of his anti-government human rights campaigns.

The Zodiac display will be on view from June 10th through October 27th at Nathan Phillips Square. The AGO show, “According to What?,” will open in August.
