Expect line-ups at the LCBO today.
People are stocking up for the long weekend, and beyond, as a strike deadline approaches.
Workers are elligible to walk off the job at midnight tonight. It would be the first strike in LCBO history.
LCBO spokesperson Heather Macgregor says there is a contingency plan to keep some stores open, but customers need to plan for a possible service disruption.
Ontario’s Finance Minister says he’s hopeful the two sides can reach an agreement before the deadline. And Charles Sousa rejects suggestions that the LCBO should be privatized. He says the province can’t afford to lose the more than $1.6-billion a year the LCBO contributes to the government coffers.
Union representatives say the workers are mainly part-timers who have not guarantee of how many hours they get a week. They’re looking for some stability.
