Gastric bypass surgery may be the best way to reverse diabetes in people who are obese.
A year long study concludes that stomach-stapling surgery worked much better at reversing or reducing diabetes than medication and lifestyle changes.
Researchers say the most common weight-loss surgery, gastric bypass, can effectively treat diabetes in patients with mild to moderate obesity.
But they warn that serious complications should be considered.
About a third of the 60 adults who had surgery in the new study developed serious problems within a year of the operation.
