At Queen’s Park, the opposition Conservatives are calling on the OPP to investigate the destruction of emails by staff in former Premier Dalton McGuinty’s office.

Privacy Commissioner Ann Cavoukian reported the destruction of the documents related to the cancellation of gas plants in Mississauga and Oakville.

Conservative MPP Rob Leone says Cavoukian’s findings are proof that crimes have been committed. He says it’s equivalent to theft because the emails have disappeared.

Conservative Energy Critic Vid Fedeli says Cavoukian’s report is also proof that the government wasn’t being honest with the committee investigating the gas plant scandal. He says it explains why there were gaps in the documents submitted to the committee. He will be calling for some witnesses to be recalled, and expects the committee will find some Liberals in contempt.

The Conservatives are also calling on the NDP to withhold their support for the government in the next budget vote.
