The Internet can be a powerful predictor of a film’s box office success.
That’s according to a new Google study tracking moviegoers watching trailers online.
The company says their figures can provide a very accurate picture of how a movie is going to do at the box office.
Google surveyed 99 of the top-grossing films of last year and found that four weeks before a film was released search volume for its trailer can predict its opening box office with 94 per cent accuracy.
Hollywood distributors rely on a handful of research firms to predict opening weekend box office figures.
