The South African government says former President Nelson Mandela’s condition remains serious but stable, his third day in a Pretoria hospital.
The office of President Jacob Zuma said in a statement Monday that 94-year-old Mandela’s condition is “unchanged.”
A recurring lung infection is keeping the former president in hospital. Mandela has been susceptible to respiratory infections ever since he contracted tuberculosis during his 27-year imprisonment. In April, doctors diagnosed him with pneumonia and drained fluid from his chest.
