A Canadian-American team of researchers has developed a new drug they hope will be a breakthrough in treating several types of cancer.
The experimental drug targets an enzyme that gives rise to tumors, including breast, ovarian, colorectal, pancreatic and prostate cancers.
Dr. Dennis Slamon, of the University of California, Los Angeles, who invented Herceptin, a breakthrough breast cancer drug, says the ultimate test is always clinical trials in humans.
The researchers have only just filed the necessary paperwork to apply to begin tests on people with Health Canada and the U-S Food and Drug Administration.
