The Toronto Symphony Orchestra has avoided the stormy labour waters that many other orchestras have fallen into.
The TSO has successfully negotiated a three-year contract with its musicians – that takes effect on Canada Day.
No details have been released but the fact that an agreement was concluded without job action is significant. Several orchestras in the United States have gone through messy labour disputes. Detroit, Minneapolis, and Atlanta have seen divisive disputes between orchestra management and musicians.
The TSO’s 2013-14 season begins on September 21st with a gala program of Mozart and Wagner featuring pianist Lang Lang.
