It’ll be the battle of the Toronto city councillors in the Etobicoke-Lakeshore provincial byelection.  Peter Milczyn represents the area on city council, and is running for the Liberals  in the August 1st vote.  City Councillor and Deputy Mayor Doug Holyday has decided to run for the Progressive Conservatives.  P.C. Leader Tim Hudak confirms Holyday has agreed to be the party’s candidate in the riding held for the last 10 years by former Education Minister Laurel Broten.  Hudak says the former candidate, Toronto Police detective Steve Ryan, was injured at work and will not be able to run in the byelection.  He won the P.C. nomination in Etobicoke-Lakeshore last December. Doug Holyday was the last mayor of the former City of Etobicoke and came second as the Progressive Conservative candidate in the former riding of Etobicoke-West during the 1987 provincial election.

A Forum Research poll released earlier this week says the Liberal party has a lock on Etobicoke-Lakeshore.  Milczyn polled 44 percent, while Steve Ryan earned 28 percent support.  Voters will also go to the polls in four other provincial byelections on August 1st – Scarborough-Guildwood, London, Windsor and Ottawa.
