The  recent OHIP cutbacks to physiotherapy are affecting many older Ontarians who desperately need the medical care, including our Zoomer Media colleague Lisa Glennie.

Last November, Lisa suffered a cerebral hemmorhage while at the gym.  Following emergency surgery, she was in a coma for weeks and doctors said she might remain paralyzed on her left side.

But Lisa is making some progress, although a lot of advanced physiotherapy and rehab is going to be needed for her to regain as much mobility as she can.

Roy Windhager is Lisa’s husband. He tells the New AM 740’s Goldhawk Fights Back, Lisa is now being treated at a costly private clinic, not covered by OHIP, “a wonderful facility called Therapeutics.  They have some revolutionary theories and equipment there.  I take her there 3 afternoons a week.  In the last 3 months, we’ve seen noticeable movement in her left leg.  I think her attitude has been better.  She’s been empowered and has the will and determination in her.  She has a good spirit.”  Windhager is urging the provincial government to reinstate some coverage for physiotherapy.  He says our healthcare system is “good if you’re a little bit sick, but not if you’re a lot sick.”
