An estimated 50-thousand people are still without power here in Toronto.

Spokesperson Jennifer Link says Toronto Hydro is trying to contain the outages to the west end of the city and is shuffling power around as part of the process of trying to fix the problem.

Link says that rolling blackouts are possible until the situation is resolved – which could be as late as tomorrow.

Earlier today Toronto  Mayor Rob Ford said the power grid is ” hanging by a thread.”

He’s asked  people to cut back on power by disconnecting electronic devices  and  non-essential equipment.

The mayor has launched a full review of the city’s emergency response procedures.
