Flags are flying at half mast atop the Peace Tower in Ottawa and across Quebec to honour those who died in last weekend’s train disaster in Lac-Megantic.

And the Quebec government has announced a $60-million fund for victims of the disaster.

Twenty bodies have been recovered so far, but police say another 30 are still missing and likely dead. That would make it the worst rail disaster in Canada in almost 150 years.

The Chairman of the rail company that operated the train was under verbal attack by residents when he visited yesterday. Ed Burkhardt concedes that the brakes might not have been set properly by the engineer before he left the train on Saturday night. The engineer has been suspended without pay.
