STORMS LEAVE THOUSANDS IN THE DARK

A week of oven-like temperatures moved out with a bang.

Violent storms hit Ontario and southwestern Quebec killing at least one, injuring 10 others in Quebec.

About 276-thousand customers remain without power in Quebec; about 107-thousand in Ontario.

Numerous trees came crashing down on vehicles and roads, including one in a Toronto neighbourhood.

The silver maple is said to have been the inspiration for ”The Maple Leaf Forever”, once Canada’s unofficial anthem.

Alexander Muir wrote it in 1867, the year of Confederation.

The one-time principal of Leslieville public school died in 1906.
