Pope Francis is reaching out to young followers the way many reach out to each other –  social media.

The 76-year-old pontiff tweeted youth Catholics heading to Rio de Janeiro for World Youth Day.

Francis, who leaves for Rio Monday, wished them a safe trip.

More than one-million young Catholics are expected to attend the festival.

He’s the first pontiff from the Americas.

This is the 76-year-old Argentine’s first trip aboard since becoming pope in March.
