There’ll be no change for Canadian merchants as far as credit card rules go.

The Competition Tribunal has rejected a complaint from retailers against Visa and MasterCard.

Shopowners had said the rules were too restrictive and noted that fees for accepting certain “premium” cards are among the highest in the world.

Merchants wanted to balance their costs by  imposing  surcharges – for using certain cards.

The tribunal did not elaborate on its decision.
