The mayor of Lac-Megantic wants answers  from the company at the heart of this month’s deadly Quebec train accident – after being forced to pay more than $4-million in unpaid bills to companies clearing up the disaster site.

Mayor Colette Roy-Laroche says  Montreal, Maine & Atlantic Railway hired a number of companies to help clean up the millions of litres of oil and other chemicals that leaked into the water and soaked into the soil after the July 6 accident.

Three of those companies came to  authorities recently to warn that they had not been paid for their work  and would be leaving the disaster site if no money was forthcoming.

The town was forced to come up with  $4,149,187.48.

 Town lawyers have also sent a warning letter to the Chicago-based MM&A ordering them to pay back the money or risk legal action.
