BOB RAE NAMED BOARD CHAIR OF B.C. BASED PARTNERSHIP OF FIRST NATIONS

A month after resigning as a Liberal Member of Parliament, Bob Rae has been appointed chairman of the board of the British Columbia-based FN (PTP) Group Limited Partnership.  The FNLP, as its known, is a limited partnership of 15 First Nations along the proposed pipeline route between Summit Lake and Kitimat, B.C.

Bob Rae was a guest on the New AM 740’s Goldhawk Fights Back yesterday.  He’s also the chief negotiator and counsel for the Matawa First Nations  in Northern Ontario’s so called Ring of Fire mining area.  “I believe this is the single most important question facing the future of Canada,” Rae explained, “I don’t think most Canadians think that way.  This wouldn’t be top of their agenda.  But for me it is, because it’s unfinished business.  We’ve pretended as if there was nobody here when we got here.  When we got here, meaning non-aboriginal people.”

Bob Rae is a lawyer by education.  His lengthy career in Canadian politics, including a stint as NDP Premier of Ontario in the early 1990s.  Most recently, he was interim leader of the Federal Liberal Party for two years.  Bob Rae turns 65 on August 2nd.
