One of Canada’s foremost artists is being laid to rest today.
A funeral for Alex Colville is being held in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, where Colville had made his home.
Colville was famed for celebrating the idea that “ordinary things are important.” He died earlier this month at the age of 92
His longtime friend, James Perkin, will be speaking at the service. He says he wants to let people know about the man behind the artist. Perkin says Colville and his late wife, Rhoda, were very much at home in the small community of Wolfville, and took great pains to fit in as everyday citizens.
The funeral will take place at Manning Memorial Chapel at Acadia University in Wolfville. It can only hold 100 people, so a television feed has been set up at nearby Convocation Hall for the expected overflow crowd.
