Canada’s premiers and territorial leaders are in Niagara-on-the-Lake this week for the semi-annual Council of the Federation meeting.

Ontario’s Kathleen Wynne is one of six women at the table. She and Alberta’s Allison Redford will be joined by Manitoba’s Greg Sellinger in pressing their colleagues to ask Ottawa to increase infrastructure funding to prevent natural disasters. After widespread flooding in the two prairie provinces, and this month’s flash flood in Toronto, the premiers want to see more money from the federal government to limit damage from extreme weather.

The premiers will also discuss the transportation of oil and gas by rail in the wake of the derailment and disaster in Lac Megantic, Quebec. Job training, and a call for a public inquiry into missing and murdered aboriginal women are also on the agenda.
