One of the women in the The Because Girls Can Relay team attempting to swim Lake Ontario has been taken to hospital.

18-year old Mona Sharari was pulled put of the water this afternoon near Newmarket and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The team paramedic noticed she was showing symptoms of hypothermia  but says she’s o-k.

A spokesman for the team says she may rejoin the group and continue the swim but it’s too early to tell.

The other four swimmers are continuing the swim.

Two of the women are zoomers, at ages 48 and 61.

The women hope to raise $300,000 for the Because I am a Girl project a global gender equality, anti-poverty and girls’ rights initiative.
