It’s all about money. That’s the reason why athletes take performance-enhancing drugs.
That’s the concusion of former Canadian Olympic sprinter Ben Johnson.
He says the money is great and so is the pressure to win.
The 51-year-old made headlines around the world when his gold meal in the 100 metre dash at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, was taken away three days later for testing positive for steroids.
Johnson is now promoting the anti-doping campaign, Pure Sport.
Johnson tells young athletes today, who face the same choice he did two decades ago:
“With modern training techniques, legal supplements and nutrition, you can compete clean and run just as fast as the cheats”.
Johnson says he hopes his involvement in the campaign will help him be remembered for more than a failed drug test.
