Bombardier’s C-Series commercial aircraft has finally taken off for its first flight.
Hundreds of employees, suppliers and invited guests were on hand as the C-Series lifted off from Mirabel airport north of Montreal just before 10:00.
The first flight has been postponed several times, and comes nine months after it was originally scheduled.
The Bombardier C-Series is part of Porter Airlines controversial expansion plan at the Toronto Island airport. Earlier this month, Porter introduced a revised proposal to extend the main runway at Billy Bishop by 200 metres in both directions. According to Porter, that would allow the jets to use less power on takeoff, resulting in less noise.
