They’re celebrating at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
It’s because 18-year-old pianist Jan Lisiecki has been awarded the prestigious Gramophone Award as Young Artist of The Year.
He’s a student at the Glenn Gould School of the Conservatory.
The British classical magazine honoured Lisiecki at a ceremony at LSO St Luke’s – the London Symphony Orchestra’s Music Education Centre.
Lisiecki is the first North American to win the award.
The young pianist from Calgary also won the illustrious Leonard Bernstein Award for 2013 and was nominated for a Juno Award earlier this year. He recently released his second album on the Deutsche Grammophon label and performed at this year’s BBC Proms to rave reviews.
