The Bolshoi Ballet’s artistic director has returned to the famous theatre in Moscow.
Sergei Filin has come back after months of treatment in Germany for burns he suffered to both eyes when a man threw acid in his face.
The attack in January exposed a fierce power struggle within the theatre and both the general director and his rival, a principal dancer, were removed in the aftermath.
Filin attended the ballet company’s traditional gathering to kick off the new season today but said he wasn’t ready to resume work and will be travelling back and forth to Germany for continued treatment.
He wore tinted eyeglasses instead of the dark shades of months past.
Filin’s vision is reported to be 80 per cent restored in his left eye but his eyesight remains poor in his right.
